Ohmic Uniformity
Electrical uniformity metrics for multi-point test interfaces determine the consistency of signal transmission across parallel probe arrays. A high contact resistance balance ensures that no single pin carries excessive voltage drop compared to its neighbors. The measurement identifies the variance between the maximum and minimum resistance values found across all pins in a test block.
Interface Performance
A stable connection requires that each spring probe exerts equal pressure on the board pad to minimize variations in the constriction resistance of the metal interface. Contact resistance balance prevents localized heating during high-current testing of power distribution networks. When the balance is poor, the test results may show false failures due to voltage drops that do not exist on the board itself.
Measurement Technique
Engineers evaluate the distribution of resistance values by cycling the test fixture through a series of mechanical compressions and recording the data for statistical analysis. Measurement of contact resistance balance typically involves a four-wire Kelvin test to isolate the probe resistance from the lead wires. If the spread of values exceeds the threshold set by the manufacturer, the fixture requires cleaning or the replacement of worn pins.
Consistent maintenance of the probe tips ensures that the data collected during the final functional test remains accurate and repeatable over long production runs.
