Motion Limit
Dynamic boundaries governing the speed and acceleration of moving pick-and-place heads prevent structural vibrations on the assembly line. These gantry acceleration limits are established to prevent the machine frame from flexing during high-speed shifts. This mechanical constraint ensures that the placement head follows its programmed path without drifting.
Adjusting these values allows the machine to balance speed and mechanical wear.
Positional Accuracy
Rapid direction changes generate massive inertial forces that wear out linear motors and guide rails prematurely. By observing gantry acceleration limits, assembly plants reduce the risk of mechanical breakdowns during long manufacturing runs. Lower acceleration rates also reduce the heat generated by the motor drives.
This thermal control extends the calibration interval of the equipment.
Component Retention
Component retention on the nozzle relies on keeping the acceleration forces below the threshold of the vacuum hold. When gantry acceleration limits are set too high, small components can shift or fly off the nozzle during high-speed movement. Solder paste is also disturbed if the head stops too abruptly when placing the part.
Laser height sensors check the part before and after movement to ensure it has not shifted on the nozzle. Keeping these motion limits within the manufacturer specification guarantees high placement yield for tiny passive components.
