Contact Strategy
Electronic circuit inspection utilizes a combination of flying probe and fixed bed of nails hardware to maximize fault coverage. Hybrid probing integrates the speed of a dedicated fixture with the flexibility of movable needles to reach dense or complex test points. This approach allows the system to verify standard nets quickly while using the flying probes for fine pitch components or high density interconnects.
Speed Optimization
Software algorithms determine the most efficient path for the movable probes to cover nodes not accessible by the fixed pins. Because hybrid probing uses both mechanical systems simultaneously, the test time is reduced compared to a pure flying probe setup. The fixed probes handle the high volume power and ground connections, while the flying probes perform sensitive measurements on analog or digital signal lines.
This dual mechanism provides a way to detect assembly defects such as shorts, opens, debris or incorrect component values on boards with limited real estate.
Clearance Boundary
Mechanical clearance between the fixed pins and the moving arms defines the physical boundary of the test area. If the board layout is too crowded, the risk of collision between the hybrid probing elements increases, requiring careful path planning. The accuracy of the system depends on the calibration of the movable axes relative to the fixed plate.
