Contact Geometry
Precision spring-loaded probes utilize a plunger tip to establish electrical continuity against component pads during board test sequences. These micro-pogo pins interface with high density interconnect sites to permit verification of signal integrity and voltage levels without damaging delicate plating surfaces. The probe assembly resides within a dedicated test fixture that facilitates rapid connection to automated equipment.
Travel Mechanics
Constant downward pressure maintains physical contact while the spring compresses to compensate for minor height variations across the board layout. This axial movement allows the pin to accommodate different assembly tolerances and prevents erratic resistance readings caused by vibration or thermal expansion during the inspection window. Reliable signals depend upon the ability of the internal spring to exert enough force to penetrate surface oxides on the pads while preserving the integrity of the board assembly beneath.
Alignment Constraint
Successful registration between the pin head and the target land depends on strictly defined center distances to avoid short circuits on adjacent traces. High density designs reduce the available capture radius which necessitates precise guiding of each probe through specialized support plates to maintain vertical orientation throughout the testing cycle. Mechanical offset between the probe tip and the center of the contact area determines the likelihood of measurement drift or intermittent connectivity failure.
Failure to maintain these tolerances increases the risk of damaging the board finish through lateral scarring or complete misses of the intended connection point.
