Acquisition Fault
Surface mount machinery diagnostics track instances where automated vacuum nozzles fail to lift or position a component from a feeder. A placement pick failure stops component transfer and triggers automated recovery routines or operator intervention. Machine vision systems confirm component presence and orientation immediately after the pick nozzle lifts the device from tape or tray cavities.
Unrecognized part outlines, incorrect vacuum pressure levels or tilted components force the placement head to purge the device into a scrap bin.
Machine Kinematics
High-speed surface mount placement relies on precise mechanical alignment between vacuum nozzles, feeder tracks and optical sensors. Experiencing a placement pick failure often points to worn rubber nozzle tips or improper tape cover peeling tension. Incorrect feeder sprocket pitch advances carrier tape inaccurately, positioning the component offset from the nozzle center axis.
Machine control software logs recurring pick failures by feeder slot to alert operators before whole reels are discarded into reject bins. Cleaning vacuum nozzles and recalibrating feeder index positions restores nominal pick success rates.
Defect Threshold
Analysis of pick execution stops at the point of physical nozzle contact with the component pad on the board surface. Misalignment occurring after nozzle release falls under placement offset or reflow skew classifications rather than pick execution failures.
