Transport Mechanism
A material handling system utilizes parallel tracks to move printed circuit boards through various stages of an assembly line. This dual lane conveyor configuration allows two boards to travel through the same process zone independently or simultaneously. Adjustable rail widths on each track accommodate different board dimensions to support mixed production runs.
Throughput Optimization
One lane can receive and position a board for component placement while the other lane is executing a transfer or waiting for downstream clearance. This overlapping workflow minimizes the non-productive time of high speed pick and place machines by ensuring a board is always ready for processing. The utilization of such systems increases overall equipment efficiency by smoothing out short stoppages.
Lines equipped with this technology can process high volumes of single assemblies or run two separate products without retooling.
Line Coordination
The integration of multiple lanes requires advanced software logic and sensor arrays to prevent boards from colliding at transfer points. Optical sensors at the entrance and exit of each zone track the board position and signal the machine controller when a lane is clear. In the event of an upstream delay, the line controller can route boards dynamically to maintain a steady flow.
