Delivery Mechanism
SMT component delivery modules provide a steady supply of surface-mount devices to the pickup head of a placement machine. In modern production lines, the electronic tape feeder replaces older pneumatic designs by using an internal motorized drive to pull the carrier tape forward. This motorized action occurs with high precision when the controller sends a digital signal.
It ensures that each pocket in the tape aligns perfectly with the pick nozzle. This digital indexing minimizes mechanical wear and allows the assembly system to track component consumption in real time by transmitting feeder counts directly to the factory database.
Advancement Control
Microprocessor-controlled stepper motors manage the mechanical indexing of the plastic or paper carrier tape. Unlike mechanical feeders that rely on the physical stroke of the machine gantry to advance the tape, the electronic tape feeder utilizes programmable advance steps that can be adjusted for different component pitches. This flexibility reduces changeover times on the assembly line.
It permits very small indexing moves.
Component Integrity
Smooth movement prevents fragile components from bouncing out of their pockets before the nozzle can pick them up. The electronic tape feeder accelerates and decelerates the tape gradually to minimize vibration. This controlled movement decreases pick errors.
