Compliance Document
Compliance document providing a list of every chemical substance present in a component or an assembly down to the parts per million level. A full material declaration is requested by buyers to ensure that their products meet international environmental standards and to manage the risk of hazardous substances in the supply chain. Unlike a simple certificate of compliance, this report lists the mass and the chemical abstracts service number for every ingredient in the part.
Supply Transparency
Data collection achieved by requesting these reports from every vendor in the bill of materials enables high levels of accountability. This information allows the manufacturer to calculate the total amount of a specific substance, such as lead or mercury, across the entire product. If a regulation changes and a new substance is banned, the engineering team can quickly search the database to see which parts are affected.
This proactive approach prevents the need for expensive laboratory testing of every finished product. It also facilitates the recycling process by identifying the materials used in the assembly.
Reporting Threshold
Standards define when a substance must be listed based on its weight. Most rules require the disclosure of any chemical that makes up more than zero point one percent of the weight of an individual part.
