Manufacturing Equipment
Industrial press machines that apply high temperature and mechanical pressure to a stack of circuit board layers bond the materials into a single solid panel. A panel lamination press uses heated plates and a vacuum chamber to melt the prepreg resin and draw out any trapped air or volatile gasses. This equipment ensures the uniform curing of the resin and the precise thickness control of the completed substrate.
Mechanical Operation
Curing of the multilayer board requires a tightly controlled thermal and pressure profile to avoid material defects. The panel lamination press operates by clamping the lay-up stack between flat steel plates while applying a vacuum to extract moisture and air. This process is followed by a heating cycle that raises the temperature to the cross-linking point of the resin, ensuring a high-strength molecular bond.
If the press plates are not perfectly flat, the resulting panel will suffer from thickness variations that alter the characteristic impedance of the transmission lines. This mechanical run is monitored using real-time sensors to record the temperature and pressure profiles for quality assurance and traceability.
Process Control
Consistent lamination results are achieved by regularly calibrating the thermal distribution and pressure uniformity across the press plates. This preventive maintenance minimizes board warp and twist, which are common causes of component assembly failures. By utilizing multi-opening presses, fabricators can process multiple panels simultaneously, optimizing production throughput and material utilization.
