Stencil Configuration
Stainless steel foil serves as the printing medium for solder paste deposition in electronic assembly operations. A vector tensioning frameless stencil mounts this foil into a specialized pneumatic or mechanical frame system to reach required flatness and tension without a permanent frame structure. This method allows operators to swap foils while maintaining the exact aperture alignment necessary for fine pitch component assembly.
Assembly Tension
Mechanical edges along the perimeter grip the thin metal sheet to distribute force across the print area. High tension settings prevent the foil from sagging or distorting during the repeated cycles of the squeegee blade. Consistent geometry at the point of deposit reduces paste volume variance between individual boards.
Proper setup eliminates uneven solder joints that cause shorts or opens on dense circuit designs.
Processing Yield
Thermal expansion during reflow remains decoupled from the mechanical mounting of the foil because the thin material rests inside a dynamic holder. Changing the stencil thickness alters the stencil printing output directly by modifying the aperture volume available for solder paste. Adjusting the force applied to the edges compensates for variations in foil thickness during production.
Precision in these settings governs the amount of paste released onto the pad surface.
