Circuit Calibration
Voltage variation measurement begins when precision resistors form a balanced diamond network on a populated printed circuit board assembly. Wheatstone bridge data acquisition captures minute resistance shifts by comparing an unknown sensor output against a known reference leg during final functional testing. Thermal expansion and mechanical stress alter conductor geometry during the reflow soldering process, creating parasitic resistance changes that affect strain gauge accuracy.
Automated test equipment applies a regulated excitation voltage across the input terminals to record the resulting output voltage differential from the output nodes. Signal conditioning amplifiers boost this low level millivolt signal before an analog to digital converter samples the continuous waveform for computer processing.
Bridge Optimization
Resistor tolerance matching dictates the baseline accuracy of the measurement circuit before operational loads reach the assembly. Parasitic thermal EMF generation at dissimilar metal junctions introduces offset errors that require software compensation algorithms during signal processing routines. Hardware filtering circuits remove high frequency electromagnetic interference picked up by long trace runs between the sensor element and the measurement hardware.
Calibration software applies correction factors to account for lead wire resistance when remote sensing configurations place the bridge far from the acquisition card.
Operational Verification
Defect isolation depends on automated boundary scan tests that verify trace continuity across every leg of the resistive network prior to power application. Oscilloscope measurements capture transient noise spikes during switching operations to ensure the acquisition system maintains signal integrity under load. Bridge linearity checks confirm that output voltage tracks applied mechanical or thermal stimuli without saturation distortion across the entire operating range.
Final quality clearance requires stable readings over a sustained burn in period to prove that solder joint degradation will not corrupt subsequent acquisitions.
