Pressure Mechanism
Compressed air assembly tool provides the force necessary to install compliant-pin connectors into a printed circuit board. A pneumatic press fixture uses regulated air pressure to drive a press-in tool down onto the connector housing. This method ensures that the pins are seated to the correct depth and that the insertion force is applied uniformly.
Such tools are preferred over manual presses for high-volume assembly due to their repeatability and speed.
Actuation Control
System regulation involves the valves and sensors that manage the movement of the press cylinder. The pneumatic press fixture is equipped with flow controls to adjust the speed of the downward stroke and prevent impact damage. Pressure gauges monitor the air supply to ensure that the force remains consistent across different production batches.
Many systems include a dual-palm trigger to ensure that the hands of the operator are clear of the work area before the press cycles.
Operator Safety
Workspace protection is integrated into the design of the tooling to prevent accidental injury. The pneumatic press fixture often features light curtains or mechanical shields that stop the machine if an obstruction is detected. Proper training is required to set the stroke limits and pressure levels for each specific board design.
This equipment provides a controlled environment for the assembly of high-density backplanes and motherboards.
