Digital Receiver
Large area sensors convert incoming radiation directly into digital signals using a thin film transistor array combined with a scintillator layer. The flat panel detector replaces older image intensifiers to provide a more compact and distortion free imaging solution for electronics assembly. Modern x-ray systems utilise these devices to achieve high spatial resolution at high frame rates.
This technology supports the identification of defects that were previously hidden by signal noise.
Conversion Mechanism
Incident x-rays strike the surface and generate light or charge that the pixel electronics capture. In a typical flat panel detector, the design minimizes the distance between the conversion layer and the readout circuitry to reduce signal loss. This integration supports the detection of microscopic defects like solder micro voids.
Dynamic Range
Ability to distinguish between subtle differences in material density allows the sensor to image both low density laminates and high density solder balls simultaneously. High bit depth outputs ensure that fine details are not lost in the shadows of larger components. Quality imaging depends on the linear response of the sensor across the entire energy spectrum.
When the sensor maintains this linearity, the resulting data supports quantitative analysis of solder volume.
