Consolidation Machine
High-pressure hydraulic equipment featuring enclosed thermal plates and vacuum chambers consolidates the individual copper and prepreg layers of a multi-layer board into a solid panel. This machine, called a vacuum lamination press, applies controlled temperature cycles to melt and cure the prepreg resin under a high vacuum. It is the central piece of equipment in the multi-layer fabrication process.
This machinery determines the final thickness and layer alignment of the board.
Operating Sequence
The process begins with loading a registered stack of layers into the chamber, where vacuum pumps extract air to prevent moisture entrapment. Heating elements then raise the temperature of the plates to liquefy the epoxy resin in the prepreg. Once the resin flow begins, hydraulic rams apply high pressure to compress the layers and eliminate remaining voids.
This state is maintained for a defined period to allow complete polymerization of the resin matrix. The chamber is then cooled gradually to prevent internal stresses from warping the panels.
Yield Factor
Insufficient vacuum or incorrect pressure profiles during this sequence cause voids and layer delamination. Proper calibration of the thermal ramp rate is required to match the dynamic viscosity curve of each resin system. Regular maintenance of the vacuum seals ensures consistent pressure across the plates.
