Volumetric Measurement
High-resolution optical sensors measure the vertical dimensions of solder paste deposits and component placements on a printed circuit board. This 3d aoi technology detects volumetric discrepancies or height deviations that planar inspection misses. It quantifies the precise volume, height, and area of every solder joint against programmed criteria for electronic assembly.
The boundary for this operation exists at the completion of component placement or reflow soldering, where it identifies defects such as insufficient paste, bridge formations, or displaced contacts.
Process Verification
Operators utilize these systems to maintain statistical control over the assembly line. By generating height maps for each component, 3d aoi allows for the detection of coplanarity issues that lead to open circuits after soldering. The machine flags parts that deviate from a specified z-axis tolerance, preventing faulty boards from advancing to final test or shipment.
It calculates the actual displacement of a component body relative to the fiducial marks on the board, ensuring alignment meets performance requirements for complex circuits.
Coordinate Acquisition
Digital algorithms translate light patterns into a topographical profile by interpreting the phase shift of projected light stripes across the surface. These profiles define the geometry of each pin and terminal on the populated card. The resulting data provides a comprehensive record of the assembly state at the moment of inspection.
Each measurement represents a spatial coordinate validated against the digital design files to ensure mechanical integrity of the interconnects.
